The
First United Church Mission stands at the corner of Hastings
and Gore Streets in downtown Vancouver. In 1914, the Church
became a Mission serving the people of the Downtown Eastside.
As an inner city ministry First United Church Mission goes far
beyond charity. The broader mandate is to affirm the worth of
the individual, to empower communities and to work for social
justice. With these principles in mind, First United Mission
is also a teaching institution for students for theological
institutions, UBC, U Vic, Langara College, and Douglas College.
Staff members advocate with government agencies and provide
educational outreach for a variety of social action agencies.
Volunteers from both churches and the broader community work
in a broad range of ways to further the work of mission, in
walking with the poor and disenfranchised.
Trinity has been an ongoing support to First United Church Mission.
In 2001 we held two food drives to benefit the Mission. Throughout
the year individual congregation members donate money which
is forwarded to the Mission. You can visit First United Church
