St.James Community Square
Once
the home of St. James United Church, St. James Community Square
(SJCS) is now a community building located in the heart of Kitsilano
at 10th and Trutch. SJCS seeks to provide continuing, affordable
access for community and non-profit organizations for the purpose
of meetings, classes, and cultural and social events. The residents
of Kitsilano benefit from the support programs, recreational
and educational classes, and performances that take place at
"The Square". The ever growing list of tenant organizations
and the range of activities attest to the fact that SJCS is
a vital component in our diverse community. Community rentals
cover the operating expenses on the site; improvements to the
site are dependent upon the success of grant applications as
well as assistance from Trinity United Church.
Over two dozen groups meet regularly in the multi-purpose rooms,
or have dedicated office and/or programming space in the building.
There are approximately 3,000 adults and children participating
or registered in regular activities at the site. A registered
society and charitable organization, St. James Community Square
offers some space at no charge to groups that are fund raising
or that provide a valuable community service but cannot pay.
Support from community members is extremely helpful in the ongoing
efforts to maintain and upgrade the facilities. Your support
can be shown by taking out a membership at the nominal cost
of $2.00 or through a tax deductible donation. Membership/donation
forms are available from the office.
A WELL-DESERVED AWARD!! Read all about it on our "Home Page"
